Pipe Smoking and Thinking

We live in a day and age when things just move too fast! Get ‘er done, get outta the way, stop wasting time… these are the kind of things we’re all used to hearing.

But the nature of pipe-smoking means you’ve got to sit down, carefully fill your pipe just so, light it, puff it, keep it going. It’s not something you want to do fast.

We can all imagine the classical philosopher, ruminating on some new theory while absent-mindedly puffing. It’s meant to be a pleasureful endeavour, perfect for reflection, ideal for introspection.

In our pipe club, we try to marry those two ideas together. Why not join us?

More than Shootin’ the S***

Everyone appreciates meaningful conversation, but for most of us, it’s just hard to get there. We often fallback to talks about the weather, sports, news, and women– but inwardly appreciate a good chat about our frustrations with raising our children, personal addictions, troublesome coworkers, or getting along with our wives.

When we meet together, we often start with some laughter about mundane things, but eventually take turns giving a brief update about what’s going on in our lives. We don’t formally pray for each other in the meeting, but we encourage each other to remember our struggles during the following weeks until our next meeting.

About These Guys

Holy Smokers is a group for guys to get together for a pint, trade tobacco, stories, and questions about God or theology, or anything else.

We started the group in 2013, with our eyes on the Inklings – a group that once had C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien as members.

During warmer weather, we take turns meeting in each other’s backyards, and in the colder months, we meet at Jacob’s garage.

If you’re interested in joining us, send a message using our contact form. We’d love to meet you!
